Mouse heads are the new black

Looks like I can check 1) attending a rave and 2) see a grown man wear a giant light-up mouse head off my long list of things to accomplish in life!

I was assigned by AnnArbor.com to shoot DJ deadmau5 at Eastern Michigan last weekend. He has a devoted following of young, neon-wearing dance types and they came out dressed to the nines for his performance. Speaking of, he perfrom high atop the stage looking down from a massive cube-like structure covered in LED lights. It was quite the visual show.

Katie and Eric Bronson

I met Eric Bronson right after I moved to Ann Arbor in 2009. He was a Nikon shooter on the sidelines of Michigan football and I was the new girl with confusing Nikon gear and no real clue how to navigate the "Big House." In no time we became friends, turned out that Eric had just moved back to Michigan too, except this time he brought with him his fiancee Katie, a naturalist from California.

Eric and Katie meet in Alaska, where they lived a life of boats, water, fish and adventure. They moved to Hawaii shortly after, insert wild adventures here, like studying and photographing whales (talk about a dream right?) They made the decision to move to Michigan where Eric could pursue his photography career and that (quickly) brings us to last Saturday. Eric and Katie got married on his family's lake front property in Fenton. They mixed a little Hawaii with a little Alaska and dropped it in a classic Michigan fall setting and bam! a beautiful yet original wedding.

Congratulations Katie and Eric! Thanks for being you, being friends and many, happy adventurous days ahead!

We had to give this American Gothic inspired moment a try! Plus they had a pitchfork in the shed, I couldn't help myself.

This photo pretty much sums everything up. Eric and Katie flew in beautiful flowers from Hawaii for their leis, wore their big rubber boots from Alaska and mixed it with a beautiful fall day in Michigan.

Katie actually arrived by boat from a neighboring house. Talk about a dramatic entrance!

Marge is 90!

For real this time! I met Marge Colburn when her family hired me to document a birthday celebration at Comerica Park this past summer. It was the first of what turned out to be THREE birthday parties for the 90-years-young Colburn. (Well deserved I must say!) I had the honor to attend two of these parties, to photograph and take video, and I had a blast at both. Below are a few photos from party number three on 10/10/10. Is there a better date for a party??? :)

Never, have I met a more light-hearted, energetic and all around happy person. Here's to an open and generous heart, a constant smile and aging gracefully! Happy birthday, Marge.

Marge is mother to four children, and let me tell you, they know how to throw a party! Not a detail missed!

Friends flew in all the way from Oregon to celebrate with Marge, she was thrilled!

Michigan football action

This weekend is a bye week for the Michigan football team. It's coming at a great time for both the players and me! I need a break from the sidelines and will be trading in my football attire for some dress clothes as I'll be shooting a wedding this Saturday instead!

Here is some football action from this past weekends game against Iowa.

Football action

With the Michigan football team away last weekend I was assigned to shoot Eastern Michigan take on Ohio University. The Eagles lost dropping their record for the season to 0-5.

One of the nice things about shooting at this EMU game were the nearly empty sidelines, the complete opposite of UM's sidelines. This is a positive because it allows a shooter to get a bit closer to the action and not waste time jockeying for position, shoulder to shoulder with other photographers, television shooters, cheerleaders and those lucky enough to have a sideline pass.

It amazes me how tough college football players are. Can you imagine if this was just another day at work for you? Somebody get this guy an ice pack!

Rocking out

I've been shooting a lot of rock shows for AnnArbor.com recently. It's been a nice addition to an avalanche of preps and college sports assignments. Here are a few photos from artists Kid Cudi, Broken Social Scene and Jason Marz.

This is Cleveland native Kid Cudi during his performance at Eastern Michigan University. I have never, ever, felt bass like I felt coming from the speakers where I stood to take this photo. Shook my bones! Thank goodness I am not "to cool" to wear earplugs!!

Style in low light

AnnArbor.com assigned me to photograph three local rapper/producers last night at small club in the area. I took at as an opportunity to have a little fun with the low light environment.
